It’s Alive!

Well - First - Thank you VERY much to Summer - my Wife!  She helped me find the time during the Thanksgiving holiday break to get the display finalized and lit up!  We are basically done!!!!  System is running - broadcasting on 88.5 FM from 5:30 PM to 9:00PM Sunday - Thursday and 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM on Friday and Saturday.  There are a few elements that still need to be finished - but the bulk of the animation sequences are living and breathing!  Tonight I was doing the final testing before going live tomorrow night - and I had a few people stop to watch…

Items left: Finish sign for front yard - I have the artwork completed - just need to get it printed!, Lawn Lights, Strobe Lights (may not install this year), Flood Lights (Green, Red and White) and a Merry Christmas sign that we have.

Currently we are over 24,000 lights - and it is BRIGHT! :) I’ll post some photos and video soon.  I can’t wait - MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Huge Gains!

Well - things are coming along quite nicely!  I still have a lot of work left to do - but only have the upper icicles, one upper window, the large wreath, garage door and all of the snow flakes & strobes to install…  Then the “real work” begins… wiring everything to the controllers… in all - there will be about 90 extension cords to power the entire display!  I am hoping that the rain that is predicted tomorrow hits late tonight and clears up and dries up by tomorrow night!  That way I can finalize the few install items and begin wiring everything up!  I would like to be done so that I can fire the display up for full tests this Friday night!  Only the weather change that!!!

Tonight - the completed list included: right window, center window, entire fence, ran cords for upper icicles… seems like so little - but it was a lot of work! :)

Setup has Begun…

Author: admin | Filed under: Christmas Monday Nov 17,2008

Well - we started the setup yesterday - After the Chargers lost another heart breaker against the Steelers - my Brother Dallas and I got started on getting items setup - as well as getting everything measured out for the sparkle balls - as well we got all of the yard trees in place and locked them to the tree!

More to come… Hopefully I will be able to get all of the item placement done this week so this weekend we can beginning wiring everything.

Steps to Setup…

Author: admin | Filed under: Christmas Saturday Nov 8,2008

Everything is built - we have everything ready to install - the only item that I am waiting for is the low pass FM filter - this will help tune the FM frequency to ensure that there is no carry over into neighbor stations…

I think that this week I will begin to install the icicle lights - they take the longest since I move very slowly on the roof to make sure that I stay safe - but once they are completed and the wiring is done - I can move onto the remainder of the setup.

Stay Tuned.

When to Setup!?

Author: admin | Filed under: Christmas Friday Nov 7,2008

Well tonight I created a custom C9 string to test the flash bulbs that we will be incorporating - as well tested the extension cord creation mechanisms - this will allow me to quickly create custom length extension cords for WAY less than what you pay in the store.

I also got the video system - plain and simple - it is OVERKILL!  There is a full DVR recording system which can record up to 8 channel (cameras) - I have 4.  The cameras are incredibly powerful - in light they can pick out the name on a package on the other side of the garage - in low light - and I mean - NO light - the still can provide incredibly detailed images - it is flat out a bit scary!  We will probably install - but we will keep the “out of the way” as I don’t intend for people to think we are watching them - it is just to protect the displays from vandalism and theft.

I am SO excited to get started!  I was in Starbucks today and they have switched all of their cups to their red holiday cups - Home Depot has everything setup now as well - Target also has removed all Halloween decor and replaced with the Christmas trees and more!  I am besides myself…

So… I will begin setup Nov. 15th - should only take 2 full days - I will do the icicles during the week next week - so that I am only doing item setup, tree wrapping, bushes and windows, etc… then we will do all of the testing - going live around Thanksgiving!

Status of the Build…

Author: admin | Filed under: Christmas Sunday Nov 2,2008

One of my younger brothers, Dallas came over today after Church to help build a few more items for the lights.

Today we built the framework for the PVC fence. We got everything painted and have a stake already set in the ground so we can quickly build when we get ready..

We finished the secure dog door for the wires which will leave the garage through this hole - as well - got the plan together to build a cable cover - we have a ramp with a 1.5″ rise which will span about 2′ - this will allow guests walk over the cables easily.

My Wife convinced me that I need to get my neighbors involved - and I agree - this week I am going to go chat with all of them - get them my cell phone, home phone, email - etc. I want to make sure that their holiday and Christmas is comfortable and enjoyable. The key is that we have NO plan to involve the media - not this year!

I hope that everyone is open and as excited as I am - but I will build the schedule based on everyone’s needs and wants.
